"I am so thankful to God for bringing me home."

I’m living in the moment now and looking forward to my future. I have my struggles but there is always someone telling me to pick myself up and go again. This place has changed my life.”

The impact of the Walk programme,
as described by some of our past residents below paints a great picture of lives changed and men living out their potential.

Before:

“I started with solvent abuse and moved on to absolutely everything else. A few years ago the lights were going out for me, addiction really had a grip on me and I was losing the will to live.”

After:

“I had used for over twenty years, I could not remember a day without drugs. After two months at the detox home I felt like a completely different person, like anything was possible again”

Before:

“I had used for over twenty years, I could not remember a day without drugs.”

After:

“Without Jesus I would not have made it through the difficult days. He is my light, my hope and the reason I’m able to be the man I am today”

Before:

“I was sentenced to life in prison in 2003, and I wanted to die. I never thought I would be able to make it through the sentence, and frankly, I did not want to.”

After:

“I think a lot of people in my situation would be scared. I am 58 now and I do not have any pension, any savings or anything financially to fall back on. But I have learned to trust God and that gives me the courage to live one day at a time, knowing that my life is in His hands and He has a future for me.”

Before:

“I found the move into one of the shared homes hard at first. I had relied on someone telling me what to do every second of the day, like a prison in some way“

After:

“I found support from men who were there for me, who showed me love no matter what I was saying or doing. It was something I was not used to, but something I really needed”

Before:

“I was deep in drug addiction and crime. All my relationships had broken down and no one could get close to me“

After:

“As we start to change our families and friendship networks start to heal too. I have seen other guys get to know their kids for the first time, restore relationships and be invited into their parent’s homes again.“

Before:

“Before I joined Walk Ministries, I was in a destructive place. I was living in chaos that only led to more and more emptiness.“

After:

“This place is heaven on earth, and it is where we found God and our lives started a massive transformation in an amazing journey of love, peace, humility, kindness and grace.“

In 2020 over 48% of men detoxed successfully at our detox home.

In 2016 Walk Ministries opened a dedicated detox home. It is a place where men can start their journeys in an environment that promotes healing, wholeness and growth.
