A Word from our CEO

CEO Simon Edwards on the canals

It’s that time of year again. When the world around us begins to brighten as we see the sunshine more. Nature around us is changing as we see new roots coming through, leaves budding and the blue skies.

Wellbeing has become important to me in the last year or two of my life and at present I feel it’s important to prioritise it more and more, because a healthy positive me is so much better than a stressed out, unfit me.

Going to the gym each week, doing 5 mile walks, and connecting with close friends have become a priority to me, and that is here to stay. I still love the canals and spent more time exploring them.

What are you doing right now to help you be a better you? Are you reading, walking, eating better food, connecting more or even using social media less? Are you going to bed at a better time and starting the day better? All of these things are important and if you’re not doing them now, it’s ok, because today is your start day.

To start my wellbeing journey, I wrote a list of what I don’t want in my life anymore. I was overweight, I was stressed. To be truthful, I felt lost and unheard in my day to day.

So, I wrote a list, who I wanted to see more, and why. Who I definitely didn’t want to see at all. I wrote how much weight I wanted to lose, and how I was going to achieve that. Then the most important part, I looked at what was stopping me from doing this, why was I not healthier or seeing my friends, and not feeling happier?

I really took time to process all this and made a plan. Social media was shut down instantly for a season and is still going. I started to connect with friends that I missed and were important to me, and I’m still doing so regularly. I started going to the gym at 6am in the morning and found it was better for me as my day was not interrupted. I’ve committed to 6 to 8 walks each week that are 5 miles long.

I am committed and my motivation is still going strong.

Here’s the thing, I’ve not done it on my own. As I wrote these things down, I also prayed to Jesus and was honest. I said, I cannot do this on my own, I need help and guidance in what I should do and how I should do it, what is good for me? How will I succeed?

Luke 14:25-27

25 Many people were traveling with Jesus. He said to them, 26 “If you come to me but will not leave your family, you cannot be my follower. You must love me more than your father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters—even more than your own life! 27 Whoever will not carry the cross that is given to them when they follow me cannot be my follower.

I read these beautiful scriptures and saw I had to give so much up that I was allowing to take over my life, and as hard as it can be to let things go, I knew I had too. You see, Jesus knows what’s going on in your life. If you ask, he will show you and if you trust, he will lead you.

I’m still on the journey of letting my life adjust to how it’s meant to be. Sometimes I ace it, others I’m still trying as best I can.

I know this, following Jesus is and will always be my advice for you, and me every single time.

You’ll get there, as long as you start today. And it starts with being honest and being in prayer.

Have a great time as you start this new season.

Simon
